今天一个朋友在地铁上一口一个“宣武门儿”、“东直门儿”、“西直门儿”，听得我好不别扭，下面来说说汉语儿化音怎么用。
首先东直门、西直门，是不加汉语儿化音的；反之，东便门儿、西便门儿是可以（而且往往会）。为什么呢？
因为在北京话里，很大很正式很特指的东西，是不加汉语儿化音的，而很小很一般很泛指的东西往往会加汉语儿化音，例如东西便门儿是老北京城的角门儿；而宣武门、德胜门、崇文门、安定门、东直门、西直门之类的是更正式的门。所以前者要加，后者不加同样的例子还有，公园儿在北京人眼里就很一般很小（尽管有些公园儿并不小），所以叫某某公园儿（譬如北海公园儿、景山公园儿）反过来，颐和园、燕园、圆明园这些正式的特指的地方是绝对没有汉语儿化音的。
除非是一个刚入学正热衷于各种全国排名的北大学生，那么，或许他会管清华园叫清华园儿这样的情况也发生在寺庙上。黄寺就是黄寺儿，因为是泛指；白塔寺、卧佛寺、永安寺这些就不能加汉语儿化音同理，胡同一般应该读成胡同儿，如砖塔胡同儿、宝钞胡同儿、大羊宜宾胡同儿；但也有一些特例，宽如灵境、大如辟才，像街道一样，似乎就既可以叫胡同儿，也可以不加汉语儿化音而称胡同相对地，街往往就读街，即使很小如陟山门街、烟袋斜街、西斜街。但也有例外：南小街儿、北小街儿有时就会加汉语儿化音，基本是被“小”字害了；反之“宽街”得益于“宽”字，一般就不会被加汉语儿化音道也分大小，马连道就是不加汉语儿化音的大道，养蜂夹道儿就是要加汉语儿化音的小道，去过这两个地方对比一下立刻会明白的确是大小差距明显再来是巷，这个比较独特，一般来说专指一条胡同的，如流水巷儿、大豆腐巷儿，需要加汉语儿化音。反过来，如果是依存于某个其他地理名称而存在的，如护国寺西巷、花园东巷，则由于受前面的地理名称特指的关系，不加汉语儿化音。另外，长如锣鼓巷，也跟灵境胡同一样，享受街道待遇，不加汉语儿化音有趣的是这个花园东巷，花园跟刚才说的公园儿一样，应该是花园儿，东巷读成东巷儿也可以（因为不大），但是根据特指这一点反而倾向于不加汉语儿化音，所以最像北京话的读法是花园儿东巷.
最后说说仓和店，这个最复杂，也跟过去的仓与店的规模大小和知名度有关系。大木仓儿似乎应该加汉语儿化音；南新仓就不习惯加；禄米仓则既可以禄米仓，也可以禄米仓儿。似乎只能看语感了。
